Popular Nollywood actress and film producer, Mary Remmy Njoku, has responded to reports that a court ruling has awarded N5 million in damages against singer Oxlade over his leaked bedroom tape.
It was earlier reported that a High Court in Ikeja, Lagos state ordered Oxlade to pay a young woman, identified simply as John Blessing, N5 million in damages for secretly recording their intimate session and posting the video on social media.
Judge Olalekan Oresanya, who delivered the verdict, described Oxlade’s actions as “disgusting, horrible, distasteful and classless”.
The video of Oxlade making out with the lady was leaked on social media in February 2022 without the knowledge or consent of the woman concerned, sparking public outrage.
Feeling hurt, John Blessing filed a lawsuit against Oxlade on March 15, 2022, seeking N20 million in damages for invasion of privacy and damage to her reputation.
Blessing’s defense team claimed in court that the leaked video not only caused emotional distress but also had a significant impact on her career and personal life.
The judge’s ruling ordered Oxlade to pay 5 million naira in damages to Blessing in two installments of 3 million naira and 2 million naira respectively.
However, actress Mary Njoku commented on an Instagram blog that shared the news, implying that the amount awarded to Blessing was quite small.
