The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed reports that its officers attempted to arrest singer Portable at his bar on Tuesday, March 28th.
It was reported earlier that pandemonium broke out yesterday at singer Portable’s bar in the Sango area of Ogun State after Nigerian police officers stormed the establishment to arrest him.
Videos of the incident that has been circulating on social media showed the “Zazu Zeh” singer making a scene as he resisted arrest.
Portable, who went live on Instagram during the drama, can be seen confronting the officers as he asks what he had done to justify the arrest.
He asked the officers to show their IDs while reiterating that he had committed no crime. He further stated that he only earns his money legally and has done nothing wrong to justify such treatment by the Nigerian police.
The State Police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident and told the BBC that Portable had been asked to report to the police on five different occasions but he refused to do so.
Abimbola Oyeyemi revealed the ‘Zazu Zeh’ singer was called in for questioning after a complaint was filed against him.
“We have also sent an invitation to him through his father twice for questioning after a report was lodged against him. The police approached a court to get an arrest warrant for him following his refusal to honour the invitation.
On sighting the police, Portable stripped himself naked so as to create a scene. Portable is not bigger than the law. We are going to use minimum force to arrest him,” he said.
