Junior Pope’s Family
Nigerian man discloses that Junior Pope’s family needs to raise between 30 and 40 million naira for traditional rites so that he can be buried away from the river.
The young man revealed this in an Instagram Live video where he said that this is the norm for people who die at the river.
According to him, if someone drowns in the water, the river spirits have a right to the body and if the family decides to bury them somewhere else, there will be consequences.
However, the young man later says they can calm the river spirits, but even then it’s not a foolproof way to avoid the risks involved.
The eyewitness who was at the scene of the boating accident claimed that Junior Pope’s family knew the customs and refused to bury him by the river.
The river dwellers did not trouble them or attempt to recover his body from them but simply informed them of the consequences of their decision.
