Veteran Nollywood actress, Margaret Bandele Olayinka, also known as Iya Gbonkan, has told how she was repeatedly attacked by witches for playing the role of a witch in films.
In an interview, Iya Gbonkan, who is known for her role as a witch in most Yoruba films and who has terrified children and adults alike because of her spooky roles, said that real witches started visiting her around midnight any day she starred in her first film.
The 64-year-old actress also recalled a time when she was beaten black and blue by witches for refusing to join their clan and the result was a swollen face.
According to the veteran actress, she was grateful that her late husband was still alive and he stood by her side at that time. She added that she was lucky to survive the many attacks because God was on her side and she continued to play more witch roles.
Iya Gbonkan explained why she vehemently refused to join the witch clan by saying she is a mother and cannot feed on the blood of innocent people. She added that witchcraft wasn’t part of her lineage and it won’t start with her.
