Adanma Luke, a popular Nollywood actress the producer of the movie Junior Pope was shooting before his death, has spoken about the boat accident that occurred during the filming of a new film in Delta State.

The boating accident resulted in the death of popular Nollywood actor Junior Pope Odonwodo and four other crew members.

Speaking about the incident for the first time since it happened, Adanma Luke blamed Junior Pope for not wearing a life jacket during the boat ride.

Speaking further, the movie producer stated that the late Nollywood actor was provided with a life jacket, but he rejected it because it was dirty. She also disclosed that she was supposed to be on the same boat that capsized.

“On that shooting day, I saw my director. I saw Emeka. They were outside. My director was wearing a life jacket. Emeka, the D.O.P. was in a life jacket. There was still one other jacket which I don’t know who took it.

“My production manager said they saw one life jacket hanging so, they took it. He said they sent one to Junior Pope but he said it was dirty and didn’t take it. Those people with life jackets survived (the boat accident),” Adanma said in a video clip uploaded on her Instagram page on Saturday.

“They also told me that when they were in the water trying to survive, Junior Pope was asking if everybody was okay. They even threw a gallon to him to use and hold himself up. But all of a sudden, they didn’t see him again.

“It was when they came out that they noticed, he was no longer there. They said divers came and rescued some of them while other divers were still there trying to save others,” She added.

However, the movie producer, Adanma Luke did not make it clear whether the other four deceased were also not wearing life jackets.

Junior Pope and four other actors drowned after their boat capsized in Anam River, Anambra State on Wednesday, April 10th, while returning from a filming location.

The Actors Guild Of Nigeria Is Taking Action

Following the death of Junior Pope, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) made decisions impacting the industry in response to the tragic death of actor John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope.

Under his leadership as National President, Emeka Rollas announced a series of measures:

Suspension Of River Filming: All movies involving river areas and boating are suspended indefinitely. The move aims to prioritize safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Nationwide Filming Ban: There will be no filming anywhere nationwide on Thursday, April 11th, 2024. This pause is a sign of respect and mourning for the lives lost.

“Another Side Of Life” Film Suspended Indefinitely: Production on “Another Side of Life” is paused until further notice as part of the Guild’s precautionary measures.

Restriction On Working With Adamma Luke: Actors are prohibited from working with Adamma Luke as a producer until further guidelines are issued. This step is part of the ongoing investigation and security considerations. (Continue reading)
