Corps Member Who Died In Lagos Train/BRT Accident Laid To Rest (Photos)

The remains of the National Youth Corps member, (NYSC), Oreoluwa Aina, who died in the freak accident involving a Lagos State Government staff bus and a train, have been buried.

The 28-year-old was among six victims confirmed dead in the crash at the PWD railway line in Shogunle, Ikeja, Lagos state on Thursday, March 9.

Aina, who was serving with the Curriculum Services Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Education in Alausa, was buried at Atan Cemetery on Saturday.

A state government delegation led by Education Commissioner, Folasade Adefisayo, attended the funeral. The NYSC State Coordinator, Yetunde Baderinwa, and family members of the deceased also attended.

Meanwhile, the Lagos state government staff bus driver who collided with a moving train in the state’s Ikeja area on Thursday has urged the victims of the crash to forgive him.

This is coming after one of the survivors of the crash, identified simply as Titilayo, while recounting the events leading up to the collision, said in a conversation with reporters that they pleaded with the bus driver to wait for the train to pass, but he refused.

Another survivor said the 44-year-old driver, Oluwaseun Osinbajo, put on his earphones while driving and ignored orders from the railway’s signal officers.

According to new reports, the driver has been transferred to the state’s Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Branch, while up to seven people have been confirmed dead and others injured in the accident are currently being treated at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

The driver, who works with the Lagos State Ministry of Transport, shared his version of what happened on that fateful day, blaming a mechanical failure in the bus for the incident. (Continue reading)
