Popular Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, known professionally as Davido, has spoken out about the tragic death of his 3-year-old son, Ifeanyi.
It is worth recalling that Ifeanyi died on October 31, 2022, after drowning in a swimming pool at his father’s residence in the Banana Island region of Lagos state.
Davido, who recently released his long-awaited album, Timeless, said in an exclusive interview with CNN that the loss of his son had a significant impact on the project.
“Before my son passed, we had finished the album. But it was a tragic situation and I really had to calm myself down and take a step back,” he explained.
He added that he and his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, did not deserve to lose their son and no one in the world deserves to lose a child.
“Nobody would want that,” Davido said, referring to the death of his son. “And everybody knows that I and Chioma didn’t deserve that.”
The 30-year-old superstar singer also attributed his comeback to the overwhelming support he received from his family, friends, and fans.
“At some point, I couldn’t open my Instagram for weeks. One day, I just checked it and I saw messages from every kind of person in the world. I was like ‘you’re fine, you see everybody is rooting for you.’ That was one thing that really made me strong enough to stand up again, get back in the studio, and do what I love.” He told CNN.
