Popular Nigerian comedian, John Okafor, known professionally as Mr. Ibu, has undergone surgery on his second leg, further endangering his health.
This was disclosed by sources who spoke to Vanguard. According to them, part of the leg that was amputated just a few weeks ago was removed due to complications.
The operation was reportedly successful but Mr Ibu’s health has deteriorated significantly, according to sources, he can barely speak. This starkly contrasts the dynamic and energetic actor that fans have known and loved.
Adding to the grim news, there is a growing concern for veteran actor, Amaechi Muonagor, who has been hospitalized for over two months at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra State.
Amaechi Muonagor, known for his roles in many Nollywood films, is said to be suffering from complete paralysis of his legs.
Dr. Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), expressed deep concern for Mr. Ibu and Amaechi Muonagor.
In a telephone interview, he said: “We are deeply saddened by the fate of these two esteemed actors.”Mr. Ibu’s condition is particularly worrying and seeing Amaechi Muonagor’s situation is truly heartbreaking.
The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) appealed to fans, well-wishers, and philanthropists to extend their support to the aspiring actors.
He disclosed that the AGN has approved the transfer of N250,000 from the Guild’s Trust Fund to Muonagor’s account.
However, he points out that this may not be enough due to Amaechi Muonagor’s existing health insurance coverage.
