Popular Nollywood actress and movie producer, Destiny Etiko, has taken to social media to urge her peers in the Yoruba film industry and their fans to speak English when addressing the general public.
The movie star, who is of Igbo descent, commented in a video shared on social media that many of her peers only converse in their local language, creating significant communication barriers.
Destiny Etiko cited the same issue when tracking comments and discussions from Yoruba speakers who would rather communicate in their dialect than carry everyone along.
She pleaded with them to learn how to communicate successfully in either English or use pidgin so everyone can understand.
“I just don’t know why whenever you are speaking to Yoruba people, they will always want to speak Yoruba. Ehhhhh I don’t understand even on blogs. You all will be speaking Yoruba like everyone is Yoruba. You guys should try and speak English or broken,” she said.
