Nigerian singer, Obi Lawson, popularly known as Obidiz, has finally replied to gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo’s threat to file a N2 billion lawsuit against him for using her name in a secular song.
It is worth recalling that Mercy Chinwo had sent a “cease and desist” letter to Obidiz through her attorney, ordering him to take down his song titled “Mercy Chinwo” from all digital music platforms.
The song in question, titled “Mercy Chinwo,” was released in 2023 and tells the story of a wayward church girl.
“She dey share me the cake, but she no want commit. Mercy Chinwo for church, but for club na Cardi B sef”, the lyrics read in part.
In addition to taking down the song, Obidiz must issue a public and personal apology to Mercy Chinwo.
She warned that failure to comply with her demands would result in legal action, including a court action to award her 2 billion naira in damages for the slanderous use of her name.
“That you immediately CEASE AND DESIST from any further use of the name and image of Our Client in promotion of your music.
4.2 That you take down or cause to be taken down, the song titled “Mercy Chinwo” which you published on be taken down immediately from all music digital platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Sound Cloud and any other platform whereby you made such publication.” The letter read in part.

In response through his Twitter account, Obidiz denied referring to the gospel singer in the song. According to him, the song was about a woman he met.
“Na song I sing I no kill person. Mercy Chinwo for church, but in the club she’s Cardi B set’ you want to crucify me, I only Talks about a lady that I met, na she I sing about.” He wrote.
