Damain Okoligwe, a 400-level student of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), has denied killing his 20-year-old girlfriend, Justina Otuene.

It is worth recalling that the oil and gas engineering student was arrested on Wednesday, October 25th, after his girlfriend’s decomposing body was discovered in his apartment.

Appearing before reporters on Thursday, he claimed that he is innocent of the allegation and did not know what caused the death of the deceased.

He said that he found her lifeless in the morning after she had spent the night at his house. He further explained that he did not raise the alarm or report the incident to the police for fear of being falsely blamed for her murder.

He further claimed that the body was still intact in the bag, contrary to the popular claim that it was dismembered.

However, it is important to note that blood was dripping from the bag when he was arrested, casting doubt on his story.

The police said on the matter that officers at Ozuoba Division received a complaint from a neighbor that a foul smell was emanating from their premises located along Road 20, behind NTA Ozuoba.

In response to the complaint, they went to the crime scene, discovered the decomposing body of the deceased, and immediately took the suspect into custody.
