Reality TV star and entrepreneur, Natacha Akide, better known as Tacha, has taken to social media to lament the removal of her verification badge by Twitter.
As previously announced by Twitter CEO, Elon Musk on Thursday, the social media platform began removing verified blue ticks from the accounts of most public figures, including celebrities, journalists, professional athletes, and prominent politicians.
Verification badges on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook are awarded to accounts that are considered to be of public interest or have a significant number of followers. The blue badge is a symbol of authenticity and credibility and helps distinguish genuine accounts from fake or impersonating accounts.
The social media company recently announced that its “Twitter Blue” verification badge is now subscription-based. Accounts wishing to keep the badge must pay $8 per month.
Many checkmarks disappeared from the Twitter accounts of users who had not paid the traditional blue badge subscription fee.
The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wizkid, Davido, Burnaboy, Olamide, and Tiwa Savage, all with millions of followers, lost their badges for not subscribing to Twitter Blue.
Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tacha, who was also affected by the development, complained on her page, noting that without the blue tick, she is nothing.
In an audio recording shared on the microblogging platform, she pleaded with Twitter CEO, Elon Musk to restore her verification badge.
